Laurie Kleespies a professional woodturner, has been individually hand turning pens, desk accessories, and other functional items since 1990. A variety of materials (exotic, domestic and burl woods, as well as eye-catching acrylics) are meticulously shaped by eye on a wood lathe using a woodturning chisel. A former Army Nurse, Laurie also takes great pride in building custom furniture, and enjoys creating new and exciting work. Some of her recent additions include burl woods inlaid with turquoise. Her burl wood clocks are made from the finest nature has to offer. In addition, she was fortunate to obtain a piece of Maryland's Historic Wye Oak tree, and has made over 350 very special items from it. Kleespies fine works are highly sought after, and make wonderful gifts for the holidays or any occasion. Laurie sells her work at juried craft shows in the Mid-Atlantic region, and is featured locally at the American Craftworks Collection, a gallery which includes the League of Maryland Craftsmen in Annapolis, MD.
